What is Girls on the Run?
Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles. Through interactive activities such as running, playing games and discussing important issues, participants learn how to celebrate being girls. The program focuses on building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health. During the 6-12 week program, girls are empowered with a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement and a foundation in team building to help them become strong, contented and self-confident women. GOTR challenges and encourages the girls, whatever their fitness level as they prepare for a 5K run/walk event.
Girls on Track (GOT)
GOT is a similar program for 6th- through 8th-grade girls. It provides all the elements of Girls on the Run and addresses the middle school experience. GOT supports the girls in their transition into the teenage years by including lessons on healthy relationships, avoidance of tobacco and alcohol, eating disorders and personal safety.
